Awesome power of perseverance
Trials are not meant to defeat us. Through patience, faith, and determination, God gives us strength to keep moving forward.
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1:2-4
The trial of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
In the same book, James tells us again:
“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”
James 5:7-8
Be patient. Establish your hearts. Bakit? Because the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. Nalalapit na ang pagbabalik ng Panginoon.
James continues by pointing us to the prophets and to Job as examples of suffering and patience. We have heard of the patience of Job, and we have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy.
Trials Are Part of the Christian Way
One New Testament scholar wrote that the Christian must expect to be tested by trials along the Christian way. Asahan natin ang iba’t ibang trials sa ating buhay bilang Kristiyano.
All kinds of experiences will come to us. There will be tests, sorrows, and disappointments. You may have suffered before, and you may suffer again in the days to come. May mga pangyayaring susubok sa ating pananampalataya.
There will be dangers, sacrifices, and even unpopularity. These are all part of the Christian way. But listen carefully:these trials, persecutions, problems, and hardships are not meant to make you fall. They are intended to make you soar.
They are not meant to defeat us. They are designed to be defeated. They are not meant to make us weak. They are intended to make us strong.
Therefore, we should not complain about them. The Bible says, “Count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.” Mga kapatid, we should rejoice even in them.
This is the message today:The Awesome Power of Perseverance, the discipline of determination.
The Road to Success
There was once a man traveling along the road. He met a wise, bearded man and asked him, “Which way is success? Saan ang daan patungo sa tagumpay?”
The wise man did not say anything. He simply pointed toward a place in the distance.
Masayang-masaya ang lalaki. He immediately went in the direction that had been shown to him. But after a while, he suddenly fell. He stumbled hard.
Confused, he returned to the wise man and asked again, “Saan nga ang daan patungo sa tagumpay?”
Once again, the wise man silently pointed in the same direction. The man went back, only to fall again. This time the fall was even harder, and he returned frustrated and hurting.
He demanded an explanation. Then the wise man finally spoke:“Success is that way. It comes after the fall.”
Success comes through perseverance. Pagkatapos ng pagbagsak, kailangan nating magpatuloy, magtiyaga, at bumangon muli.
Abraham Lincoln Kept Going
Consider a man whose life was repeatedly marked by failure.
At age 22, his business failed. At 23, he ran for office and lost. He experienced another business failure and bankruptcy. He suffered personal loss. He was defeated in one election after another, including his campaigns for Congress, the Senate, and the vice presidency.
Punong-puno ng kahirapan, kabiguan, at pagkatalo ang kanyang pinagdaanan. He was defeated over and over again, yet he continued.
At 51 years old, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States. He eventually became known as one of the greatest presidents in American history.
Ang daming pagbagsak. Ang daming pagkatalo. Ang daming problemang dumating. Pero patuloy pa rin niyang inabot ang kanyang vision.
That is the power of perseverance. Sa anumang kabiguan, problema, o pangyayaring dumating sa ating buhay,just keep on keeping on. Magpatuloy lang tayo.
This is important not only in our daily lives but especially in our spiritual lives as Christians. We need perseverance.
Whatever You Do, Keep Moving Forward
Confucius said, “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”
Hindi gaanong mahalaga kahit mabagal ka, basta tuloy-tuloy ka. Makakarating ka rin sa pupuntahan mo. Pero kapag huminto ka o umatras, siguradong hindi ka makakarating.
A Japanese proverb says, “Fall seven times, stand up eight.”
Winston Churchill said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
Nelson Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it is done.”
Sa totoo lang, sa mundong ito, imposible para sa isang ordinaryong tao na makarating sa langit sa pamamagitan ng sarili niyang lakas. But with God, all things are possible.
Martin Luther King Jr. said, “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”
Kung hindi ka na makatakbo, lumakad ka. Kung hindi ka na makalakad, gumapang ka. Anuman ang gawin mo, magpatuloy ka lang pasulong. Huwag kang tumigil. Mararating mo rin ang pangarap na naaayon sa kalooban ng Panginoon.
The Christian Life Is a Marathon
We all have a destination. This is true when we travel physically, and it is also true in our journey with the Lord.
Naglalakad ka man o tumatakbo, we are trying to reach our goal. At the same time, we often hope that it will not take long or require too much effort. Gusto ng tao ang mabilisan.
But sooner or later, we learn that things do not always happen as quickly as we want. There will be distress, disappointment, embarrassment, mistakes, failures, and humiliation.
Hindi madalian ang mga bagay. May dahilan ang lahat ng nangyayari sa ating buhay at sa ating paglilingkod sa Panginoon. Our life and service to God are like a marathon.
A sprint is quick. A marathon requires perseverance. Kailangan mong magpatuloy, magtiyaga, magtiis, at maghirap because the course is long.
Perseverance has also been described as not one long race, but many short races run one after another. Maraming maiikling takbuhin, pero sunod-sunod. Every day, we continue again.
Success Is Not an Accident
Perseverance can be a great substitute even for talent. A talented person who refuses to work, learn, endure, and wait may never reach the goal. Gusto niya agad ang tagumpay, pero ayaw niyang magtiyaga.
The one who continues, even after repeated failure, is the one who eventually receives success.
Success is not an accident.It requires hard work, perseverance, learning, study, and sacrifice. Most of all, mahalin mo ang ginagawa mo. Continue to learn and grow in the work and dream God has placed before you.
Life is not easy for any of us. But we must have perseverance and confidence. You must believe that God has gifted you for something and that, by His grace, you can attain the purpose He has given you.
Do you have confidence? Naniniwala ka bang kaya mo iyan? You are gifted for something. There is a dream, a vision, and something you should be praying and working toward.
Life is not easy, but patience and perseverance have a powerful effect. Difficulties begin to disappear, and obstacles can be overcome.Huwag ka lang susuko. Alam ng Panginoon ang lahat ng bagay.
Perseverance in Our Relationship With God
Perseverance is an important part of our spiritual life. We must be ready because we were never promised that the Christian life would always be easy.
We sing, “Ang buhay ng Kristiyano ay masayang tunay.” Totoo iyon, but we still live in a fallen world. The Christian life is not a blissful, problem-free existence. It is a better way of living because we have a relationship with God.
A relationship means something when it endures trials and hardships.
The same is true in marriage. In 2026, my wife and I will celebrate our thirtieth wedding anniversary. We were married in 1996. But not every day of our married life has been easy.
Masaya ang honeymoon period. Parang walang problema at lahat maganda. Pero matatapos din ang honeymoon period. Hindi lahat ng buhay ay honeymoon. Darating ang kahirapan at hindi pagkakaunawaan because the weaknesses of each person begin to appear.
Still, love keeps the relationship going.
The same is true in our relationship with the Lord. Problems, situations, and trials will come. But if you love the Lord your God with all your heart, you can continue serving Him through discouragement and stress.
That is why we sing:
Ako’y magpapatuloy,
sundin ang kalooban Mo.
Sa kabila man ng hirap
sa buhay kong ito,
kahit anong mangyari,
hindi ako tatalikod
sa paglilingkod sa Iyo, Panginoon.
Why will we serve Him while we live? Because we love Him.
Gaano mo kamahal ang Panginoon sa panahong ito? Love gives us a reason to persevere.
What Perseverance Means
Perseverance is the steady, patient effort to keep trying and achieve a goal even when facing hard times, delays, and obstacles.
The word comes from a Latin term meaningto persist. To persevere is to continue in a course of action despite opposition.
There will be opposition, but you must persist. Magpatuloy ka pa rin.
Perseverance is persistence. Do not give up, bagamat mahirap.
Perseverance is tenacity. Hold firmly to a purpose or goal.
Perseverance is resilience. Bounce back after setbacks and failures.
May goal ka ba sa paglilingkod mo sa Diyos? Ano ang pangarap mong magawa bilang Kristiyano at anak ng Diyos?
Perseverance is the commitment to overcome obstacles and pursue a long-term goal. It is essential for achieving success, not only in the physical aspect of life but especially in our faith and service to God.
Stick with it when you encounter obstacles. Set clear goals, maintain your motivation, and learn from failures without giving up. Natuto ka ba sa kabiguan mo? If something went wrong, learn from it so that you do not repeat the same mistake.
The Discipline of Determination
Determination is the quality of having a firm purpose and continuing to try even when things become difficult.
Kahit mahirap, magpapatuloy ka. Kahit mabigat ang sitwasyon, magpapatuloy ka. Kahit may problema o karamdaman, you will continue doing the will of God because you are determined.
Determination is a strong will to finish what you have started despite the obstacles.
Make a decision. Speak it. Huwag mo lang isipin o pangarapin. Sabihin mo.
Our God is a speaking God. When He created everything, He spoke the world into existence. We are made in the image of God, and there is power in the words that come out of our mouths.
Speak with faith and believe that the Lord will do something.
To be determined means having a firm purpose to do something and refusing to let anyone or any difficulty stop you.
Job Endured His Trial
The Bible gives us powerful examples of people who endured because they held on to their faith.
We know Job. He was considered a perfect and upright man, yet severe testing came upon him. In one day, he lost his possessions and all his children. Then a painful sickness afflicted his body.
Even the person who should have supported him told him, “Curse God, and die.”
But Job answered her:
“Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?”
Job 2:10
Job also declared:
“The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”
Job 1:21
Tatanggapin lang ba natin ang magagandang bagay mula sa Diyos, pero kapag mahirap na ay tatalikod tayo?
God gave those blessings, and God allowed them to be taken away. Still, Job said, “Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
In every situation, give thanks. This is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Maaaring hindi mo pa maunawaan ang nangyayari, pero magpasalamat ka pa rin. God is at work in every situation.
Job persevered, and the Lord blessed him again. James reminds us, “We count them happy which endure.”
Joseph Held On to the Dream
Joseph was a dreamer. His own brothers rejected him, sold him, and made their father believe that he was dead.
In Egypt, Joseph suffered injustice and imprisonment. Yet he continued to trust God. He held on to the dream the Lord had given him.
At the proper time, God lifted him up and used him to preserve many lives.
What looked like rejection was not the end. What looked like delay was not denial. Joseph persevered until God’s purpose was fulfilled.
Paul Learned the Discipline of Determination
The apostle Paul also suffered constant opposition because he preached the gospel of Jesus Christ.
He was imprisoned many times. He was beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, and placed in danger. In one place, the people stoned him and left him, supposing he was dead.
Paul later spoke of a man in Christ who was caught up to the third heaven. Whether in the body or out of the body, he could not tell, but God knew.
Through every trial, Paul continued preaching. He learned the discipline of determination. He experienced the awesome power of perseverance.
That is why, no matter what problem came into his life, he continued and overcame through the grace of God.
Endurance Produces Spiritual Maturity
If we endure, spiritual maturity and completeness will come. Tests and trials of faith build endurance, and endurance leads us toward spiritual wholeness.
James says:
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
James 1:3-4
If you endure, your character will be developed.
Romans 5:3-4 teaches that suffering produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. Tested character reveals a confident and unshakable hope in the glory, salvation, and promises of God.
Hardship, distress, pressure, and trouble produce patient endurance. Endurance produces spiritual maturity. Proven character produces hope and confident assurance.
The Crown of Life Is Promised
If you endure, you will receive God’s promise. The Lord has promised the crown of life to those who love Him and endure temptation.
“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”
James 1:12
There is a promised crown waiting for you. The Lord desires to give it to those who remain faithful.
Every day, we face struggles. James tells us that even when we encounter trials and tribulations, we should count it all joy.
The struggle may involve persecution because of our faith. It may be a terminal illness, a broken relationship, disappointment, pressure, or sorrow. Yet through perseverance, we continue because we have a mission, a goal, and a promise from God.
We Are the ASAP Generation
Perseverance is not always a highly valued personal quality today. We have become people of the instant.
Instant noodles. Instant answers. Instant results. We do not want to wait.
We want everything to happen quickly, and we want to arrive at our destination as soon as possible. We are the ASAP generation.
But the Christian life does not work that way. We must depend on the Lord and continue trusting Him.
My prayer is that every one of us will cultivate the discipline of determination. Understand that there is power in perseverance.
Magpatuloy ka. If you stop, you will not reach the goal. But in the middle of sorrow, hardship, and suffering, God does not abandon us. He speaks to us, strengthens us, and blesses us.
Worship Even When It Is Hard
When was the last time you truly spoke with the Lord? When was the last time you felt His presence so strongly that you could do nothing but praise, thank, and worship Him?
Maybe there was a time when your heart was heavy. The tears would not stop. Yet in the middle of that hardship, your heart remained open to the Lord, and praise still came out of your mouth.
“Thank You, Lord, for whatever is coming my way. Anuman ang nangyayari sa aking buhay, purihin ang pangalan Mo. Sambahin Ka, Panginoon.”
There are moments when it is difficult to worship, but you worship anyway. In those moments, the presence of God carries you.
Give God the opportunity to move in your life.
Do Not Let the Enemy Stop You
You must persevere. Kinakailangan mong magpatuloy at magsikap.
The enemy will not simply allow you to enjoy freedom in your faith and continue toward heaven without opposition. He will do everything he can to discourage and stop you.
Huwag mo siyang hayaang magtagumpay.
Now is the time to worship the Lord. Now is the time to pray. Now is the time to give your best praise and worship to God.
Bring every burden, failure, and heavy responsibility to the Lord. Mabuti ang Diyos. Totoong mabuti ang Panginoon sa ating buhay.
Do You Love the Lord?
Jesus asked Peter three times, “Lovest thou me?”
Peter answered, “Yes, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.”
Jesus told him, “Feed my lambs. Feed my sheep.”
The third time, Peter was grieved. He said, “Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee.”
There was meaning in those three questions. Peter had denied Jesus three times, and Jesus gave him the opportunity three times to declare his love.
Nothing in the Bible is without meaning. It was not an accident that Jesus asked Peter three times.
Now I ask you:Mahal mo ba ang Panginoon?
Can you set aside every distraction for a moment and draw near to Him? Can you forget the noise around you and focus on the Lord?
Sing a song of worship to Him today. Tell Him, “I love You, Lord.”
Closing Call
Trials are not meant to make you fall. They are intended to make you soar. They are not meant to defeat you. They are designed to be defeated. They are not meant to make you weak. Through God, they can make you strong.
Fall seven times, stand up eight.
If you cannot fly, run. If you cannot run, walk. If you cannot walk, crawl. Whatever you do, keep moving forward.
Magpatuloy ka. Magtiyaga ka. Huwag kang susuko.
Let patience have her perfect work. Establish your heart, because the coming of the Lord draws near. Hold on to your faith, continue serving God, and remember the awesome power of perseverance.
Closing Prayer
Lord, help us as we open our hearts and minds to Your Word. Move freely in our midst and let Your perfect will be done.
Plant Your Word richly in every heart. Do not allow the enemy to steal what we have heard. Help us focus on Your Word and on the blessings You have given us.
Give us patience when we are tested, courage when we fall, and determination when the road becomes difficult. Teach us to worship even in hardship and to trust that You are working in every situation.
Help us keep moving forward. Let us finish what You have called us to do and remain faithful until we receive the crown of life You have promised to those who love You.
We give You all the praise and glory.
