All We Need Is an Upgrade
A call for spiritual renewal and maturity, reminding the church that just as life and technology change, believers must also grow, mature, and live according to their new identity in Christ.

Theme for the Month: “Back to Basics in 2026”
Sub-theme: “Building Apostolic Saints in the City for the Savior”
All We Need Is an Upgrade
Four passages of scripture set the foundation for this message. They all point to the same reality: in Christ, you are not who you used to be.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
Kaya’t kung ang sinoman ay na kay Cristo, siya’y bagong nilalang: ang mga dating bagay ay nagsilipas na; narito, sila’y pawang naging mga bago.
“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation…” 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 (KJV)
“Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh…” Ephesians 2:11-13 (KJV)
“Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God…” Ephesians 2:19-22 (KJV)
These scriptures remind us that in Christ, we are no longer who we used to be. We have been reconciled, restored, and repositioned into God’s family.
The World Keeps Upgrading. So Must We.
J. Mark Wallace said it simply: “Life is a continual upgrade.” And he is right. There is no permanently fixed thing in this world except change. As another anonymous voice put it: “You live, you learn, and you upgrade.”
Because of this reality, growth is not optional. It is not a preference or a personality type. It is a requirement for anyone who wants to remain effective and aligned, whether in life, in work, or in God.
As children of the King of kings and Lord of lords, we have been given mandates to fulfill in this ever-changing world. To become who He has called us to be, growth and transformation are required.
A World That Will Not Stand Still
The Global Portal
On January 21, 2026, the first Portal in Asia officially opened in Bonifacio Global City, Manila. This installation connects Metro Manila in real time with other cities across the world. Existing Portal locations include Vilnius, Lublin, Dublin, Philadelphia, and Ipswich, with more planned for later in 2026, including Piauí in Brazil.
The Portal is a striking picture of what humanity keeps reaching for: connection, access, and the ability to see and relate beyond our current limitations. The world does not stand still. It keeps building, connecting, and expanding.
Technology That Never Stays the Same
Consider how quickly things become obsolete. Music once played on cassette tapes. Movies came on Betamax and VHS. Games ran on Game and Watch, Family Computer, Atari, and Nintendo NES. Phones had long antennas and computers ran on DOS and Windows 3.1.
All of those were once the cutting edge. Today, they are museum pieces.
Times change. Systems become incompatible with the present. Eventually, everyone upgrades, whether they want to or not. We replace old phones, outdated software, and aging hardware because staying on an old system means falling behind.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence, or Artipisyal na Intelihensiya, is the creation of artificial intelligence for machines, allowing computers to learn, think, and make decisions. AI helps people search faster, shop smarter, receive medical diagnoses, and navigate safely.
It is modern. It is fast-moving. And like every tool created by people for people, responsibility for how it is used always rests with us. Technology does not carry values. We do.
The Upgrade That Matters Most
All of that is background to the real point. As believers who have been joined to God and placed into His family, we must upgrade the way we live. This upgrade is far more significant than anything in the technology world.
The old way of living is outdated, corrupt, and incompatible with our new identity in Christ. There is no going back to what we were before. The Word is clear:
“Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Romans 12:2 (KJV)
“Let us go on unto perfection…” Hebrews 6:1 (AMP)
What Does It Mean to Upgrade?
The word “upgrade” comes from the nineteenth century and carries a straightforward meaning:
- To increase to a higher grade or rank
- To improve quality or usefulness
- To exchange something for a better version
- To improve by adding or replacing components
To upgrade is to make something better, stronger, and more effective. Some people upgrade quickly. Others wait until they have no choice. But everyone eventually must.
These words are worth reflecting on:
- “You have to keep evolving and recreating yourself.”
- “Don’t wait for opportunities, create them with every step you take.”
- “Life is a continual upgrade.” J. Mark Wallace
- “You live, you learn, and you upgrade.”
Five Areas of Purpose We Need to Upgrade
This is not a new religion. It is a better, fuller expression of the same truth. The Gospel has always been the truth. What must grow is how we live it, carry it, and bring it to others. There are five basic areas where the upgrade is needed:
| Area | Scripture | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Worship | Matthew 22:37 | Love God with all. Magnification. |
| Fellowship | Matthew 28:19 | Baptizing them. Membership. |
| Discipleship | Matthew 28:20 | Teaching them. Maturity. |
| Service | Matthew 22:39 | Love your neighbor. Ministry. |
| Outreach | Matthew 28:19 | Go ye. Multiplication. |
Think about how education works. You do not stay in elementary school for life. You progress. You are expected to move from one level to the next, building on what came before. The same is true in your walk with God. Growth is the pattern He designed.
The GIFT Framework: Every Member a Minister and a Great Leader
The church does not grow by accident. It grows through intentional investment in people. The GIFT pillar framework reflects this commitment:
- Transform (Membership): Orientation, Transformation, Incorporation
- Teach (Maturity): Continuation, Indoctrination, Instruction
- Tap (Ministry): Connection, Ministration, Supplication
- Train (Mission): Management Training, Leadership Development
- Transcend (Multiplication): Celebration, Great Commission, Maximation
Each pillar builds on the one before it. Together, they form a pathway from new believer to mature disciple to active minister. That is the goal: every member equipped, deployed, and bearing fruit.
The Upgrade We Need Most
The world will not slow down so we can catch up. It will keep changing, building, and expanding. The question is whether the church will grow in the same direction.
An upgrade is not about abandoning truth. It is about aligning fully with who we already are in Christ. Old things have passed away. All things have become new.
What we need now is not resistance to change. We need the willingness to grow into everything God has already made us.
All we need is an upgrade.
